Niantic removed Pokemon footsteps tracker and even shuts down Pokemon tracking third party websites and apps last week that causes disappointment to the Pokemon Go community. But today, another update came out and introduced the new “Nearby” and “Sightings” Pokemon tracker to the community. The update came out tonight for some selected users as the developer also mentioned that this new Pokemon tracker is still in the beta phase.
The most visible change that you will notice is the new “Sightings” label which shows a Pokemon nearby in front of a grass (this reminds me of the other version of Pokemon). As of now, we can’t tell exactly if the grass is the replacements for the three footsteps that we have before.This new “Sightings” window apparently refresh every few seconds adding new nearby Pokemon and removing Pokemon that de-spawned. Some of the beta testers reported that the Pokemon move up or down depending on how close you are to them. Moving up means you are getting nearer to that Pokemon and moving down means you are getting far away from a Pokemon. If you move too far away from that sighted Pokemon, it will drop down to the “Sightings” window and will disappear.
The new “Nearby” tracker now shows the Pokemon and the location where you can find it. Users can click and view the Pokemon and the system will show nearby Pokestop where you can search for and catch that Pokemon. Well, this new nearby tracker is very similar to the Pokevision and other third party Pokemon tracking websites and apps.
